The Seasons

December – April

With the warmer waters pushing south Marlin start to increase in numbers with the peak period being February & March and it is also a good time to go searching for that big Blue Marlin. The South Coast of NSW is renowned for its abundance of Striped and Black Marlin through these months which can be awesome on lighter tackle. The main months for Marlin are Febuary & March.

Smaller Yellowfin can be found on the shelf with the odd one 30kg+ not uncommon during this time.

April - June

April can produce good quantities of Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna but it is about May when you traditionally start to see the larger Yellowfin Tuna arrive and show what this area is famous for. Yellowfin 60kg+ is the target from May onwards with Albacore generally turning up in numbers to give some awesome light tackle fun! This time of year is also a great time to head out and chase the elusive Broadbill Swordfish!

June - August

This is the period that we get our Southern Bluefin Tuna Run, it’s a matter of keeping the finger on the pulse to make sure we are ready to spring into action just at the right time to ensure we have the best chance of landing a barrel! The All Tackle World Record of 167.5kg is held right out the front off Tathra and this area of the cost would have to be one of the best for tackling these big beasts!

August - November

Once the Bluefin move on we are quite often lucky enough to get good runs of Albacore and Yellowfin once the water starts to warm up again. Whilst it can be more hit and miss this time of year more often than not you will be rewarded!
